Bill Summary:
AB481 increases transparency for military equipment transferred to state/local law enforcement (funding, acquisition, and use). The acquisition of military equipment by state and local entities has become more common in recent years. Yet the public often have little to no information about such acquisitions. This bill would require all law enforcement agencies to receive approval from their local governing body to approve the funding, acquisition, or use of military equipment within its jurisdiction. Law enforcement will be allowed to acquire and use military equipment consistent with an approved Use Policy during the year in which the policy is in effect.
