Bill Summary:
SB81 will bring improved fairness in sentencing. Current law is unclear on when enhancements should be added to sentencing decisions, meaning that similar crimes can have vastly different sentences. This bill will create clearer standards for judges to only apply sentence enhancements when there is clear and convincing evidence that the enhancement is appropriate.
